Dirty Pretty Things lingerie aficionados was established in the Parisian spring of 2006. Melissa Gallagher's passion for fine lingerie was well provided for in the 4 years she spent living in Europe, it was upon her return home to Australia she found herself forlorn that she could not freely access her favourite silky underpinnings.
So what's a girl to do but to start a business inspired by a lifelong passion for beautiful lingerie. This damsel dashed back to Paris on a splendiferous buying trip to secure her favourite designer lingerie labels including Chantal Thomas (FR), Fifi Chachnil (FR), Mimi Holliday (UK), Lascivious (UK), Damaris (UK) to which she added a cache of exquisite and outre local labels designed by equally lingerie obsessed lasses Kiss Me Quick,Lula Starr and Thousand Dancers.
Surprises in store
Having curated a magnificent collection of lingerie she opened the gilt edged doors of Dirty Pretty Things, at the quintessential Five-ways intersection in Sydney's designer shopping district, Paddington. Crafty lass, she designed and fitted out the space herself, Dirty Pretty Things flagship store offered a decadent slice of Parisian Boudoir style to the dames of Sydney with its glittering chandeliers, ruby red velvet drapes, antique mirrors and plush enveloping surrounds where Melissa and her DPT girls would invite you in for a friendly chat or a bawdy tale.
It was a magical place where the tunes were set to bring out the inner showgirl, pink champagne flowed freely into pretty crystal flutes, a pleasure inducing palace of unlimited femininity with a hint of burlesque and a twist of old fashioned glamour.
Dearly beloved
In 2010 Melissa wrapped up the first chapter of Dirty Pretty Things in Paddington and took her beloved on a Mexican sojourn where she married her man and filled her time with sun, sand and tequila. Well rested she returned to Sydney and began hosting her highly anticipated lingerie PoP Up Parlours to surprise and delight her faithful ladies of lingerie.
Occurring on a regular basis in sophisticated locations these pop ups remain true to the DPT spirit offering exclusive selections of your favourite lingerie peppered with a range of cute and quirky accessories and gifts, from love notes to vintage gloves, ostrich fans, seamed stockings and diamante suspenders, amazing hats and erotica, every item has been hand selected to get budding burlesque beauties on the road to stardom!
